PS12ce Honduran Rosewood
Hi-Lights
6-String | Sinker Redwood Top | Honduran Rosewood Back and Sides | Tropical Mahogany Neck | West African Crelicam Ebony Fretboard | Expression System® 2 Electronics | Venetian Cutaway | Taylor Deluxe Hardshell Brown Case
The PS12ce showcases Taylor’s finest tonewoods and most luxurious visual appointments. This compact acoustic-electric features back and sides of solid Honduran rosewood whose beautiful grain pattern matches its husky, yet sparkling voice. Sinker redwood for the top adds warmth and touch sensitivity similar to that of Cedar, but with a much higher volume ceiling. V-Class bracing elevates the response even further with more power and sustain, while the Grand Concert body helps maintain definition that will especially please fingerstyle players. An ebony armrest offers a more comfortable experience, and a deluxe package of paua and mother-of-pearl details rounds out the package. The PS12ce ships with ES2 electronics and a hardshell case.
Grand Concert
A smaller-bodied guitar ideally suited for fingerstyle.
Overview: Clarity and balance reign in this small, comfortable body shape
- The smaller body and tapered waist make it the ultimate studio and stage guitar
- Features a short scale and lighter string tension making it easier to play
The small-body Grand Concert debuted in 1984 to meet the needs of a new wave of adventurous acoustic fingerstyle players. In contrast to the traditionally darker, boomier voices of bigger body styles like dreadnoughts and jumbos, the GC’s compact size and tapered waist kept the overtones in check. It was also more comfortable to play while sitting down, and the guitar’s slightly wider neck gave players more room for complex fingerings. The GC’s smaller sonic footprint also fit cleanly in a mix with other instruments when tracking in the studio and with a band on stage, making it a useful tool for professional session and side players. Our current generation of GC models continues to accommodate fingerstylists with finger-friendly traits like a shorter 24 7/8-inch scale length, which makes fretting easier and adds a slightly slinkier feel on the strings due to the lighter string tension. If you feel more comfortable with a small body or favor controlled overtones, a Grand Concert is a great option.
The smallest of Taylor’s full-size body shapes. Its compact dimensions make for a physically comfortable guitar with an intimate feel and sound. The smaller footprint keeps the overtones in check, contributing to a focused, articulate sound that’s well-suited for recording and stage work.

Honduran Rosewood
Extremely dense compared to other rosewood species, Honduran rosewood sings with a uniquely smooth voice that makes it worthy of our finest guitars.
Overview: Extremely dense compared to other rosewood species, Honduran rosewood sings with a uniquely smooth voice that makes it worthy of our finest guitars.
Origin: Honduras
Sound: Honduran rosewood has rich heritage in the world of acoustic instruments, highly valued as the wood of choice for marimba bars and now an ingredient in some of Taylor’s finest guitars.
Considerably denser than Indian rosewood, Honduran rosewood has an extremely low damping factor, which contributes to a supremely textured, harmonically complex tone. You’ll hear the warm low end and sparkling, chime-like trebles that you’d expect from other rosewood species, along with a smoothness that stands out from other hardwoods. Overtones are lush and bloom out as notes sustain while maintaining enough clarity to ensure you can cut to the front of a mix when needed.
Goes Well With: A wide range of playing styles and genres, from Americana to blues to fingerpicking applications and beyond. Pairs especially well with a sinker redwood top, which adds midrange heft and even greater warmth.
Sinker Redwood
Tight grain structure and cross-grain stiffness produce a bold and brilliant response with warm overtones. Think cedar on steroids.
Overview: A customer favourite for its origins, sinker redwood soundboards are sliced from huge old-growth redwood logs reclaimed from the depths of Northern California rivers, where they’ve lain in many cases for more than a century. The tops typically display a rich spectrum of variegation, the result of colours uniquely imparted from silt and the mineral-rich water. The age and size of these trees translates into a tight grain with nice cross-grain stiffness, so it will tend to have a fairly bold response, with a brilliance complemented by warm overtones similar to cedar. In fact, it’s often characterized around the Taylor complex as “cedar on steroids.”
Origin: Northern California
Goes Well With: Players who like the warm overtones of cedar with a little extra brightness and headroom. It pairs well with rosewood and mahogany, and looks striking when visually matched with Macassar ebony through the Build to Order program.
