Robert Schumann began Faschingsschwank aus Wien (Carnival of Vienna), Op. 26, in 1839 in Vienna. He wrote the first four movements there, and the last on his return to Leipzig. It is a beautiful and rather unusual work in five movements – more integrated than a suite, but not quite a sonata. This an authoritative urtext edition of the work.
