Sicilienne is a well-known composition, originally for cello and piano, by the French composer Gabriel Fauré. Originally composed as part of the incidental music for Molière’s Le Bourgeois gentilhomme, the piece was never used for that purpose. It became instead a solo for cello (or violin) with piano accompaniment, and when first published in 1898 it was dedicated to the British Cellist William Henry Squire.
