One of the great joys of playing any instrument is to make music with friends. The aim of The Young Violinist’s Repertoire four-book series of violin and piano duets (all of which are available from Waltons) is to provide a varied repertoire for young instrumentalists to play together. Following on from the first three books in the series, Book 4 is for the player already familiar with first and third positions. It presents a broad range of European music from three centuries, including some beautiful but relatively unfamiliar pieces by Handel, Leopold Mozart and others. Priority has been given to melodic pieces demanding a sustained legato, so that players are introduced to the cantabile style, so important to violin playing. The technical level in this book is approximately ABRSM Grades 3-5.
