Bach | Trio Sonatas | Vol 2, BWV 1038 & 1079 |Violins or Flutes +Piano

The trio sonata, a musical form that was popular in the 17th and early 18th centuries, was written for two solo melodic instruments and basso continuo, making three parts in all, hence the name ‘trio sonata’. Johann Sebastian Bach’s Trio Sonatas BWV 1037 and 1038 were written for two violins and basso continuo, 1039 was written for two flutes and basso continuo and BWV 1079 was written for violin, flute and basso continuo.

Edition Peters publishes Bach’s Trio Sonatas in two volumes, in arrangements suitable for two violins & piano, two flutes & piano or flute, violin & piano (also includes part for cello ad lib.). Both volumes are available from Waltons.
