Nicola Vaccai's excellent singing manual, Practical Method of Italian Singing (Metodo practico di canto Italiano per Camera) was published in 1832 in London and remains an indispensable introduction to classical singing and singing in Italian. Rather than using scales and exercises, Vaccai uses a series of short songs, each highlighting a particular skill and aspect of classical singing. Three volumes (for high, medium and low voice), as well as a high voice volume including a companion CD with piano accompaniments, are available from Waltons.
